"The Florida Swing"

Niniejszym serdecznie witamy "na pokładzie" naszego amerykańskiego przyjaciela Briana. Poniżej jego wspomnienie z turniejów PGA rozgrywanych na Florydzie. Mamy nadzieję, że na tym nie koniec...

The 'Florida Swing' is in full gear right now. Two weeks ago was the Honda Classic, then the WGC in Doral. This Thursday starts the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and yesterday the Tampa Bay Championship was won by Kevin Streelman at the famed Copperhead Course at the Innisbrook Resort. It is a beautiful and challenging course. I had the occasion to play it once in a high school tournament. However my best memory of Copperhead came a few years later, when I was caddying for a friend there for a 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier. My friend's playing partner that day was future 2-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen. My friend and I had known Lee from high school golf, but we were in for a surprise that day. My friend played well, hitting 27 of 36 greens in regulation. However Lee did not miss a green until the 14th hole of the second round, and that shot was just a meter or so off the fringe, from where he got up and down for par. He would miss just one more green that day and shot a few under par. My friend and I walked away thinking that Lee had a future in golf. As it turned out, he did qualify for the U.S. Open that year, and he later won the championship in 1993 and 1998. BG
